CS’s aide held over rape claim

Police in Nakuru are holding an aide to a Cabinet secretary suspected of defilement.

The suspect was arrested on Sunday evening in Mogotio and ferried to Nakuru where he spent the night at Bondeni Police Station.

Yesterday, he was taken to Central Police Station where police played cat-and-mouse games with journalists as they tried to shield him.

For over 10 hours, the suspect was holed up in the OCPD’s office after police sneaked him out of Bondeni Police Station.

The suspect allegedly defiled the minor at a high-end hotel in Nakuru at the weekend.

The Standard witnessed the suspect board a police vehicle at Bondeni Police Station with others but didn’t reach court.

Not charged

At around 12pm, a magistrate, a court assistant and a prosecutor were seen going to the police station up the stairs to where the man is suspected to have been locked and came out after some few minutes.

“We have finished, just leave, go home,” said the clerk known as Patrick Kemboi.

Kemboi had earlier informed journalists the suspect would be charged at 2.30pm, but he was not charged.

Nakuru Central OCPD Samuel Obara, in whose office the suspect was locked, said he had not been briefed on the case.

“I cannot comment on the case since I have not been briefed. If I comment I might lie to you,” said Obara.

He directed us to County Commander Hassan Barua who said the suspect had been arraigned.

Barua told The Standard on phone that the suspect was taken to Nakuru Court Number Five despite it being on recess.
