Ruto lauds the handshake initiative

Deputy President William Ruto

Deputy President William Ruto has praised the handshake, saying it has ended conflicts among politicians.

Speaking at Kipsangui Girls Secondary School in Soy constituency, Uasin Gishu County, yesterday during a thanksgiving event, he said elections were now over and leaders should shun enmity and instead focus on meaningful development.

“We are currently united between the opposition and those in Government and as Kenyans, we want to walk together in this journey of transformation,” said Ruto.

He also used the platform to challenge all chiefs and their assistants to ensure all candidates who sat the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination transit to secondary school.

He said the Government had put in place all mechanisms to ensure 100 per cent transition rate for all pupils to secondary schools.

Pursue education

Ruto said the quest for fairness between the poor and the rich would be achieved by pursuing education.

“The best place to shed differences in our society is by empowering our children through education,” he added.

He challenged parents whose children sat the 2018 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination to make use of technical training institutes.

“We currently have over 200 technical colleges and the Government has devoted itself to ensure that we get experts with necessary skills even as we work towards achieving our Big Four agenda,” he said.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago who said the State had made strides in equipping technical institutions, and that parents should allow their children to pursue courses of choice.

He also used the platform to call on the State to review the maize prices.

A group of politicians from Mt Kenya, led by Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa, who were present drummed up support for the deputy president’s 2022 presidential bid. Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua told off the DP’s critics.
