Man comes back to claim the late George Saitoti’s son

A man has asked the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji and the DCI to revisit a matter in which he claims that the late George Saitoti’s son, Zachary Musengi, is his biological son.

Sebastian Maina Ngunju wants police to reopen investigations and conduct DNA tests to establish that Musengi is indeed his son.

An almost teary Ngunju appeared publicly on Sunday, years after a probe into the case was closed. Efforts to acquire justice and be reunited with his son have hit a dead end.

“My third born child was kidnapped and after 24 years, I found the boy at the late Saitoti’s home. When he was stolen they changed his name," he said.

He claimed that he had been on the low in Harare, Zimbabwe and the ICC in Tanzania, consulting with Human Rights Organisations on how to best handle the case.

Ngunju who has now put faith in the current leadership of the DPP and DCI boss George Kinoti is demanding answers.

Speaking at a press conference held in Nairobi today, he asked that the late Saitoti’s body be exhumed to allow DNA tests be carried out, to establish the paternity of now 33-year-old Musengi.

He alleges that Musengi was kidnapped from their Subukia home over 20 years ago.

Ngunju first appeared publicly in 2012 together with his wife Elizabeth Maina, when they filed a case at the Nakuru Chief Magistrate’s Court seeking to be allowed to institute a private prosecution against the late Saitoti’s wife, Margaret.

They claimed that Musengi who was abducted from their home as a child, was the third born in their family of five and that they had named him Stephen Wachira.

According to Ngunju, ‘Wachira’ was born in 1985.

Fast forward to July 2013, the matter was laid to rest after investigations by police revealed that Musengi was not Ngunju’s son. The couple was never to speak of the claims again.
