Do you support Raila’s call to reduce the number of MCAs?

I agree with Raila Odinga on the idea of reducing the number of Member of County Assemblies (MCAs). This will go a long way in reducing the ballooning wage bill, which is an extra burden to the already overburdened taxpayers.

As a country, we do not need the high number of MCAs, especially the nominated ones. Why should we have 2,224 MCAs (1,450 elected and 774 nominated) when Kenyans don’t get value for money?

A large number of grassroots leaders are not effective in their respective assemblies. We would rather have a few MCAs who can serve wananchi effectively.

That said, I am for the idea that we also do away with the Senate, since the House only duplicates what MCAs do. If we are serious we want to cut the wage bill, apart from reducing the number of MCAs, we need to abolish the Senate and also the Woman Representative post.

There is no way county governments can be held accountable and oversighted by two institutions- county assemblies and the Senate. We also need to seriously reconsider appointing members of the Cabinet from elected MPs as it was in the past. This will save the country millions of shillings in salaries and allowances

With the declaration that will lead to cost-cutting, I also hope my brother Raila no longer entertains the idea of becoming prime minister, since this will come at an extra cost to the suffering and poor members of the public. Punda amechoka.
