Seven killed in road accident along Eldoret-Nakuru highway

Seven people have died and several others injured following a grisly road accident at Mlango Tatu area along the Eldoret-Nakuru highway.

Confirming the accident, Rift Valley Regional Traffic Commander Zero Arome said the accident involved a canter and a Nissan Matatu belonging to Classic Sacco.

The driver of the canter belonging to Raiply Company was heading towards Nakuru, when he overtook another vehicle, colliding with the matatu.

"It happened that the driver of the Isuzu canter was driving from Eldoret towards Nakuru when he overtook several cars and collided head-on with an oncoming matatu," said Arome.

Police officers attached to Timboroa Police Station assisted by a team from Red Cross rushed to the scene to assist the injured.

The wreckage of the two vehicles was towed to Timboroa Police Station, while the injured were rushed to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Arome called on drivers to be more careful on the roads especially during the festive season, adding that stern action will be taken against traffic offenders.

"We on the lookout especially during this festive season and strict action will be taken against any motorist disobeying traffic rules," he said.
