Parliament wants Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to take responsibility for the bus crash that killed 58 people two weeks ago.

The National Assembly Transport committee yesterday pressed Mr Boinnet (pictured) to explain why traffic police officers at the highway on which the crash occurred and Kericho County Police Commander Rose Muchuma had not been interdicted. MPs Tom Odege (Nyatike), Peris Tobiko (Kajiado East) and Vincent Kemose (West Mugirango) questioned Boinnet on why he had not resigned or taken action against the officers for acts of omission that might have led to the tragedy.

“It’s more than two weeks since the accident happened. By now the IG should have resigned or at least we should have heard that action has been taken against the police officers on  duty that day,” said Odege.

But Boinnet told the committee chaired by David Pkosing (Pokot East) the bus that killed 58 people at Fort Ternan in Kericho County did not pass any police roadblock throughout its journey. “The information we have so far is that the bus left at midnight and that when it reached Westlands, it turned back. There were no roadblocks at that time,” he said.
