Luka Modric is being lined up for a shock move to Inter Milan.

The midfielder reportedly wants to leave Real Madrid after six years at the Bernabeu.

Sky Italia report Inter have made contact with Modric's agents over a move, with the player yet to report back for pre-season training following the World Cup.

Modric was the player of the tournament in Russia and remains one of the leading midfielders in world football.

Real are unsurprisingly not considering letting him go following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo - but Modric may force their hand.

Inter are determined to close the gap on Juventus next season and want to make a statement signing.

They have completed a loan deal for Modric's international teammate Sime Vrsaljko from Atletico Madrid.

He joins an already strong Croatian contingent at the San Siro with Marcelo Brozovic and Ivan Perisic already at Inter.

And Modric is believed to be keen to play alongside his countrymen, who impressed so much in Russia this summer.

Julen Lopetegui gets his Real campaign underway against Manchester United on Tuesday night.

He is keen to bring in a number of new faces to help fill the void left by Ronaldo - and he will not be thinking about losing Modric too.
