Aspirant, seven presiding officers arrested ahead of ODM nominations

An aspirant for Central Sakwa ward by-election and seven presiding officers were arrested after chaos rocked ODM nominations.

Police from Bondo moved in to restore order and arrested the eight for allegedly engaging in electoral fraud during the exercise on Friday.

The officer in charge of the Quick Response Team Inspector Francis Gomre, said the aspirant and presiding officers were arrested in a house in Nyang’oma sub-location.

The aspirant was allegedly bribing the electoral officials.

“We got information from the public that something fishy was going on, before we raided the house and recovered over Sh15,000 that was yet to be distributed to the presiding officers,” said Gomre.

Returning Officer Dan Choto said the presiding officers have been replaced.
