Kimani urges NLC to assist centre to recover land for the benefit of farmers

In 2016, then Agriculture Cabinet secretary Willy Bett said the ministry had instituted measures to recover grabbed land belonging to its institutions.

A research organisation has asked the National Land Commission (NLC) to help it recover its grabbed land.

The 200 acres located at Mathangauta village, Mwea East sub-county, that belonged to the Kenya Agricultural, Livestock and Research Organisation were allegedly grabbed in the late 1990s by influential personalities.

The Mwea centre's director, Joseph Kimani, said a new cotton variety was due for release to farmers and the land would have been used for seed multiplication.

He added that there was an urgent need to repossess the land because farmers would require certified seeds in bulk.

In 2016, then Agriculture Cabinet secretary Willy Bett said the ministry had instituted measures to recover grabbed land belonging to its institutions.

Dr Kimani urged the NLC to move expeditiously to assist the centre to recover the land for the benefit of farmers.
