Residents of Loruk in Baringo North have protested increased crime despite the recent deployment of police.

Richard Chepchomei, a resident, accused the police of laxity.

“The Kenya Defence Forces and National Police Reservists are doing nothing. The officers are reluctant and do not conduct regular operations in the area," said Mr Chepchomei yesterday.

He said the residents were living in fear after cattle rustlers staged a daring day-time attack and killed one person before driving away an unknown number of livestock in Ngaratuko village at the weekend.

Caroline Yator said many women whose husbands had been killed by bandits were facing difficulties.

“We are in pain as women; each year we lose husbands and are left poor when our cows and goats are stolen. Where is the Government?” said Ms Yator.

She said Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i should visit the area and address the issue of insecurity once and for all.
