Former Chelsea and Manchester United star fights for life after heart attack

Former England star Ray Wilkins was rushed to St George’s Hospital, in Tooting, South London, this week after a heart attack and a fall at his home in Cobham, Surrey.

His doctors decided to put him in an induced coma as his family kept a bedside vigil as he fought for his life last night.

His wife Jackie spoke to the Daily Mirror saying, “He’s in hospital, and he’s had a cardiac arrest and is in intensive care.

“He is not in a good state at all, I’m afraid. He’s critically ill.

“The cardiac arrest led to a fall which has meant he’s had to be put in an induced coma.

"It’s very, very bad.”

The former Manchester United and Chelsea star was on Alan Brazil’s Talksport breakfast show, where he is a regular pundit, the day before the attack.

He did also appear on Sky Sports on Sunday and even given his predictions on the Sunday's clash between Chelsea and Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.

Jackie is hopeful to have an update after a scan is done on Tuesday.

“It’s a very difficult time for the family. He’s going to have a further scan on Tuesday.

“We hope to have an update then. It’s been a very difficult time for us.” She said.

Chelsea football club sent a message supports to the star and his family with a post on twitter.

The post read: "The thoughts of everybody at Chelsea Football Club are with Ray Wilkins and his family tonight. Keep fighting Ray, you have our love and support."

His colleague at Talksport radio, Alan Brazil encouraged the football legend to keep fighting.

"Ray Wilkins is one of the nicest men you could ever wish to meet and working with him on the show is always a joy.

"Keep fighting, Butch." Brazil said.

‘Butch’ as his folks calls him, played for England for a decade, winning 84 caps and netting three times.

Played for Chelsea from 1973 and was given the armband at the age of 18. He joined the Red Devils from Chelsea six years later.

The 61-year-old admitted being an alcoholic after he was arrested for drinking and driving back in 2013.
