The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has arrested a power generating organisation official for allegedly supplying power illegally in Homa Bay County.

The EPG Global official was arrested on Remba Island in Suba North Sub-county after a raid by ERC officials.

The suspect was arrested by police officers attached to the National Environment Management Authority (Nema) through direction of ERC.

The ERC accused the company of supplying power without its approval. EPG Global has been distributing solar power on the island of Lake Victoria. According to Homa Bay Management Authority Coordinator John Maniafu, the institution had no issue with the organisation’s operations.

“We had approved the organisation to operate because our assessment revealed they had no adverse environmental impact because they were dealing with solar energy. Let it be clear that Nema did not arrest the suspect,” said Mr Maniafu.

Suba North OCPD Wilson Nanga said the suspect was taken to Mbita Police Station for interogation.

“The officials reported to my office before conducting the raid. They arrested the suspect,” said Mr Nanga.EP Global Energy completed installation of a solar-powered mini-grid system, on Remba Island on Lake Victoria, Kenya.
