Police officers involved in quelling violence in the August post-poll period have been ordered to return their guns for ballistic tests.

The police service embarked on investigations into cases where officers were involved in killing and maiming of protesters.

Police commanders, especially in Nairobi, were ordered to hand over their nominal roll of the personnel involved.

The commanders were told to submit to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation in Nairobi Area reports they filed on each and every death reported for possible inquests.

“The police want to ensure they are safe. You never know what will happen later and the investigations are aimed at ensuring all ground is covered,” said a senior officer.
