A court has stopped former Belgut MP Erick Keter's burial preparations pending hearing of a case filed by a woman who wants to be involved in the plans.

Bomet Resident Magistrate Maurine Nyigei on Monday issued temporary orders restraining the family from moving the body from Lee Funeral Home.

“This honourable court restrains the respondents from removing, transporting or in any manner dealing with the body of Erick Keter now lying at Lee Funeral Home, Nairobi,” ordered the magistrate.

Rosemary Chepngeno Koros, who claims to be the second wife of the former Belgut MP, moved to court claiming she had not been involved in burial preparations.

She has also demanded recognition as Keter's wife.

Through an application filed under certificate of urgency, the complainant has demanded to be allowed to participate in all deliberations, decisions and consultations regarding the manner of burial of the late MP.

She argued through the petition that she had been married to Keter since 1996 and they had four children.

Chepngeno said they got engaged under the Kipsigis customs in 2012 and Keter paid dowry to her family.

Keter was due to be buried on Friday.
