Macharia Gathoni and Muthoni Sharon Kamau, both from St Peters Elite School are the leading performers in the just released Kenya Certificate of Primary Education in Nakuru County. Gathoni scored 447 marks out of possible 500 while her classmate Kamau scored 444 marks.

Nakuru County produced fairly impressive performance with the lowest candidate out of the 35 pupils who were ranked getting 400 marks. Moi Primary School Kabarak produced 8 candidates in the list where Annette Chebore came in fifth in the County ranking with 435 marks. Apollo Meagal came at position 30 in the county ranking as she closed the list of top performers from the school in the county list.

The result has shown an improvement of performance by girls. This is evident from the fact that out of the 35 candidates ranked, 22 of them are girls. Only 13 boys made it to the list.

Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiangi released the 2017 KCPE results on Tuesday morning at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, KICD, in Ngara, Nairobi. Matiangi has lauded the process as one that was having ‘less flaws.’
