FKF drops term limits proposal

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) bowed to pressure and dropped a proposal on its constitution increasing the term limit of elected members.

The proposed constitution had put a three year term limit a move that was highly criticised as it was against the Sports Act.

The federations president Nick Mwendwa told delegates that this was no longer an issue.

“We have taken time to discuss the document as delegates and decided to remove the proposal to have three terms as it contradicts the Sports Act. It is not there anymore and there should be no issues on that,” he said.

Mwendwa also urged former referees’ boss GMT Ottieno  to withdraw a case he has filed at the Sports Tribunal over the matter.

Delegates voted to overwhelmingly adopt the new constitution which comes into effect after 60 days.

However, proposals touching on elections will come into play from 2020 and this means that current officials will still be eligible to run for two terms.

Four top branch officials have been handed a four year ban on allegations of mismanagement of funds meant for branches.
