Journalists attacked during NASA's meeting

The National Super Alliance on Tuesday condemned the assault on two local journalists at their Wiper Headquarters  in Lavington, Nairobi.

Citizen TV’s Francis Gachuri and NTV’s Jane Gatwiri were roughed up by goons during a meeting called by the coalition.

In a statement signed by Denis Onyango, he said the coalition was disturbed by the incident in which some youths assaulted reporters from local media houses saying they acted on their own.

“NASA is deeply disturbed by an incident in which some youths attending its meeting at Wiper Headquarters earlier today assaulted some reporters from local media houses. We wish to make it clear that the youth acted on their own and we condemn their actions in strongest terms possible,” read the statement.

NASA has apologised for the incidence and asked media houses that captured the video to provide it for the coalition to launch investigations.

“The Coalition registers unreserved apology to reporters who fell victim to this unfortunate incident,” he added.

NASA is expected to announce its next move after the electoral commission declared President Uhuru Kenyatta winner of the repeat vote that he boycotted.

Raila had convened a Parliamentary Group meeting this morning to review the development before his anticipated announcement thereafter.

ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru condemned the assault saying the state will investigate the incident and charge the culprits.
