Babu Owino says he demands a written apology

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has demanded an apology from the people who "unlawfully demonstrated" against him.

"I demand a written apology from all those who unlawfully demonstrated against me falsely. I owe nobody an apology. No reforms No elections." He posted on his Facebook page.

This comes after the remarks he made on Sunday 24 September seemingly insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta. He, however, insisted that he will not apologise since he did not mention anyone's name.

"I will not apologise to anyone because I called nobody’s name during yesterday’s address. We have so many presidents in Kenya, from the President of SONU to all presidents of students union in Kenya, President of the Supreme Court, President of Youth Senate and many more. However I will stick to objective politics and will never abuse anybody. Let my brothers and sisters from the Kikuyu nation know that I did not abuse their president. One Kenya, one nation. Lastly, in law calling someone a mtoto wa mbwa(a puppy) is not an abuse.God bless Kenya, " posted Babu.

Nairobi Women’s Representative, Esther Passaris was not happy with the MP’s remarks and also condemned what he said.

“No matter how big our differences or how low we think of each other, there is a line that should not be crossed. As a mother, I sincerely apologise to the former First Lady, Her Excellency Mama Ngina Kenyatta, and her family over the insult and disrespect meted on her, which neither depicts nor reflects the character or direction envisaged by our Party leader The Rt Hon. Raila Odinga and the NASA principals,” said Ms Passaris.

The Embakasi MP was arrested on Monday 25 September by police officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and his case will be heard on 26 September.
