County Health Executive Hellen Ng’eno has dismissed allegations that newborns are exposed to the danger of expired vaccines.

Ng’eno said the Hepatitis B vaccine at the Kenya Expanded Programme Immunisation (Kepi) stores will expire in February 2018 and not as stated by the nurse's union.

“There are no expired vaccines in our hospitals,” said Ng’eno, adding that the vaccines have been kept in Kepi stores where temperatures are monitored as required.

The secretary general of the county Kenya National Union of Nurses, Geoffrey Tarus, had claimed that vaccines valued at Sh5 million had expired in the main hospitals following the nurses’ strike.
