President Uhuru Kenyatta has stated that the Jubilee Party will impeach the National Super Alliance (NASA) leader, Raila Odinga, if he (Raila) wins the repeat presidential election on October 17.
Speaking on Monday during a meeting with Kamba leaders at State House, Nairobi, President Uhuru noted that his party has the numbers and the leaders can amend the Constitution at any time.
“If Raila is elected how will he lead? How? In the last Senate we could not pass Bills but presently, we can do business without a single NASA member. In the National Assembly, with over 200 members we are 13 members shy of a two-thirds majority meaning we can change the Constitution. We have to tell Kenyans the truth. Even if he is elected we have the opportunity in Parliament within two [to] three months to impeach him,” said the Head of State.
He, however, did not explain in detail reasons that would lead to the impeachment.
Raila had on Sunday vowed that he would not participate in the election unless the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO, Ezra Chiloba, was sacked and prosecuted.
While addressing Kajiado County residents, he reiterated that he would boycott the polls if drastic changes were not effected in the electoral body.
Accompanied by his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka, Raila maintained that Chiloba and his team must be prosecuted for election malpractices.
"Chiloba team must go home. These were the prime suspects who were involved in the shambolic elections. They should be prosecuted for election offences.
''We are here to thank you for the overwhelming support you gave us during the recent shambolic election that was cancelled by the Supreme Court following major irregularities. However, we still maintain that we are not ready to participate if the people we mentioned are not fired,'' he declared.
On his part, Kalonzo asked voters to turn out in large numbers and vote for the Opposition Chief next month.
