Meru Governor-elect Kiraitu Murungi will be sworn into office Friday, August 18. The county swearing committee Wednesday said it had also changed the venue for the event from Kinoru Stadium to Meru town bus park adjacent to Tuskys Supermarket.

Speaking to The Standard by phone, Meru County Commissioner Wilfred Nyagwanga, who is also a member of the committee, confirmed that the date for the event had been changed. He said the committee had opted for the ceremony to take place this week.

"There is no issue with the change of the date and venue. It depends on the gazzettement of the committee on the assumption of the governor, which is led by the county secretary," he said.

Kiraitu's communications director, Patrick Muriungi, said the event would kick off at 9.30am, with the new governor set to address county employees at the county headquarters after taking the oath of office.

"All members of the public from far and wide are encouraged to come and witness this auspicious, historic occasion when the second governor of Meru County is inaugurated," he said.
