Nairobi Governor-elect Mike Sonko’s six final demands as Kidero prepares to leave

New Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko, in a letter delivered through his lawyer, has warned Dr. Evans Kidero against doing any business that involves large sums of cash.

Sonko, wants Kidero to cease any activities at City Hall capable of compromising the financial status of Nairobi County.

Sonko has started his campaign on a high, ordering the county government to pay all contractors and employees.

It is said that Sonko turned down a sh25million party to celebrate his win and now wants Kidero to stop any business consuming a lot of the county’s cash – in order to avoid inheriting a financially perilous county.

He also stated that Kidero’s financial transactions were illegal through his lawyer Kinyanjui Harrison.

The letter reads, “Following the conclusion of the General Election, our client is now the governor-elect. As a result, it is necessary to ensure a necessary transition of the reins of power in the city county from yourself, stem financial haemorrhage, forestall collapse of services and maintain accurate and proper records of the county government,”

Another ultimatum issued by Sonko was that Kidero and staff stop transferring materials from City Hall without consultations with the Transition Committee.

For peaceful transfer of power, the Ministry of Devolution asked all outgoing and incoming administrations to form Transition Committees.

Among Mike Sonko’s first orders of business include dealing with the hawker menace, garbage collection, parking payment systems, business licensing and repossessing property stolen from the county. He also plans to move all hawkers to specific markets in the city.

Sonko says that he will also set up a committee that will look into giving a permanent solution to traffic jams within the city, as well as continue offering services to the poor through the Sonko rescue team.
