Former President Daniel Arap Moi was among thousands of voters who braved the chilly weather to cast vote at various polling centers in Nakuru County.

Voting started at 6am in most polling stations where voters started trooping in as early as 3am.

At Kabarak University, Moi went through the voting exercise under the guidance of presiding officer Abigael Tarus.

The former president arrived at the polling center around midday and it took him eight minutes to complete the exercise.

After casting the ballot, Moi left the polling station without saying a word to a few journalists who were present.

His son John Mark and wife Eunice also voted at the same polling center.

Voters turned out in large numbers in all 11 constituencies but there was cases of failing Kenya Interpreted Election Management System (KIEMS) gadgets and mix up of ballot papers.

At Lakeview Primary School, Nakuru Town East constituency, KIEMS kits failed forcing the exercise to delay for one and half hours.

The faulty device could not read some peoples fingerprints forcing the election officers to key in the ID numbers for identification.

According to Nancy Kamau, a voter at the station, the exercise was going on perfectly apart from the technical hitch that caused a delay.

Another device was fetched to replace the faulty one.

A similar challenge was witnessed at Moricho primary polling station, Rongai constituency.

At Nairobi Road Primary School, Nakuru Town East constituency, ballot papers for Members of the County Assembly were missing.

The ballot papers that were delivered there last midnight were for Ndia constituency.

Nakuru County RO Silas Rotich who addressed the press, urged voters to be patient.

A voter James Munene said by 10:30 they had not started voting.

"We were told to wait for helicopter to deliver the ballot papers but nothing is happening. The issue has affected one polling stream with 700 voters," Munene said.

Rotich said: A helicopter has already left Kiine Ward, Ndia Constituency, Kirinyaga County with our ballot papers. It is still early and we hope that they will arrive in soon."

Age did not deter senior citizens from exercising their democratic rights as 74-year-old Wali Mohammad and 90-year-old Philip Rotich were among the first to cast their votes in Rongai  constituency.

Braving chilly weather, 78- year-old Martha Muthoni cast her vote at Shalom polling station.

Similar enthusiasm was evident when 82-year-old Monica Chepkurui braved the hostile weather and exercised his franchise at Kambi ya Moto polling booth.
