Trade Union Congress Secretary General Wilson Sossion has urged teachers to vote out the Jubilee administration, claiming it has been insensitive to the plight of workers.

Mr Sossion, who is also the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) secretary general, said Thursday the only way to change the fortunes of the Kenyan worker was a change in government through next month’s polls.

“Jubilee has resisted attempts by workers to fight for better terms and a conducive working environment, in total disregard for the rights guaranteed in the Constitution,” he said at Mogogosiek trading centre in Konoin sub-county.

Sossion was addressing about 300 teachers in a bid to rally support for the National Super Alliance (NASA). He said unlike Jubilee, which had deliberately staggered the implementation of the collective bargaining agreement for teachers to four years, NASA would implement it in two years if elected.

He said a NASA government would end the teacher shortage in the country by hiring 20,000 teachers annually.

“Many qualified teachers have languished without employment and it is time to address the unemployment and shortage of teachers through the ballot."
