Gor Mahia is looking forward to a good match against Everton as they jet out of the country today for Thursday’s match in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Captain Musa Mohammed said playing against a club with the pedigree of Everton will boost his players’ confidence. “No Gor Mahia player has played against a team of Everton’s stature and it will be a major step to build up confidence in the team. We have been watching our opponents play in the competitive Premier League and never thought of facing each other.

“It will be an exciting match as we will be out to showcase our skills. Many scouts will also be in Tanzania to see how good our players are,” said Mohamed.

Gor Mahia yesterday unveiled their new coach, Dylan Kerr, who promised to make the 15 time Kenyan champions great again.

Speaking in Nairobi, the Briton said: “I am pleased to be part of Gor Mahia and my vision for the club is very clear. I will work with the technical bench, the club’s management, and the squad to make the club one of the best in Africa in the long run.”

Kerr said he appreciated the talent in the team and that he would need time to assess the players to know how well to utilise them in coming matches.

“I watched the team on Sunday and I must say it’s a good squad.”

“Their game understanding is good. They controlled and totally dominated the game on a terrible surface, though they were unlucky on the penalties.

“We have enough time before our next league match and my aim is to work with each and every player to get the best. I’ll take my time to assess my players and know how to use them.”

Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier paid glowing tribute to Kerr as he called upon fans and everyone connected to the club to support him.

“We welcome Kerr with open arms. All we need is to believe in his plans and give him the requisite support,” Rachier said.
