K'Ogalo pump two past Zanzibar side, eye Sh3m prize money.

Kenyan Premier League giants and leaders Gor Mahia yesterday edged Jang'ombe Boys from Zanzibar 2-0 to sail to the semifinals of the SportPesa Super Cup at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Ugandan import Medie Kagere scored a brace for K'Ogalo to send the Zanzibar champions packing.

Kagere put K'Ogalo ahead in the 64th minute, heading home a Kenneth Muguna's pass that left Jang'ombe goalkeeper Haroun Ruga clearly beaten.

Kagere made it two after he converted a penalty in the 85th minute following Ibrahim Said's handball in the box.

The Gor striker had made his intentions clear earlier on. But the Zanzibar side was more commanding, especially in the first half. Their dominance was clear and at times, threatening Gor's movement.

His tap-in from a Timothy Otieno's pass in the 36th minute narrowly missed the opponent's backline as both teams headed for the halftime break locked at 0-0.

On resumption, Gor dominated the half as they pilled pressure on Jang'ombe, who were feeling the pressure. It was was just a matter of time before they gave in. Gor's breakthrough was coming. All signs were there.

Gor Mahia assistant coach Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno said he was not troubled with the fact that he was missing six key players in the match.

The missing players, who are currently with their various national teams, are Rwandan imports Jack Tuyisenge and Jean Baptiste.

Karim Nzigimana from Burundi is also missing, same as Harambee Stars trio of Musa Mohammed, Ernest Wendo and goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch.

"I know we are missing the players, but Gor is a big team and any player brought in for replacement is worth the task to fill the void," Otieno said.

Otieno said he had never played Jang'ombe in any fixture, but studied their game and pattern on YouTube ahead of their encounter yesterday.

"Through YouTube, I was able to know which players to sign," he said.

Jang'ombe head coach, Mohamoud Abdallah Yusuf said their opponents were stronger.
