Kenyan Premier League top guns Tusker and Gor Mahia were victors on a day their peers AFC Leopards and Ulinzi Stars came unstuck, yesterday.

Posta Rangers remained at the top of league as they retained their unbeaten run with a 1-0 victory over Sony Sugar in Awendo.

Gerald Obwoge was Rangers target man scoring in the 50th minute.

“We are all happy to be at the top and to remain there, but we must continue working hard,” Rangers coach Sammy Omollo said.

Champions Tusker had to come from a goal down to beat Nakumatt 2-1, with Gor Mahia also winning away to Bandari by a similar scoreline.

Tusker’s Clifford Alwanga and Humphrey Mieno did the damage on Nakumatt, who had taken the lead after just six minutes via Boniface Akenga.

In Mombasa, Innocent Wafula and Godfrey Walusimbi were the toast of Gor Mahia despite Noah Abich’s spotkick.

Godfrey Walusimbi had a field day as he kept on firing powerful shots, which Bandari’s custodian Joseph Okoth was at hand to perfectly handle them.

Walusimbi, who had an afternoon to remember set up Wafula to give Gor Mahia 1-0 lead at halftime.

Bandari came back into the game seven minutes after restart when journeyman Noah Abich struck from the penalty after stand-in captain Shaban Kenga was tripped in the box by Musa Mohamed.

Early pacesetters AFC Leopards saw their old boy Charles Okwemba slot in for Sofapaka for a 1-0 victory for Batoto Ba Mungu in Machakos Stadium.

AFC could have drawn level in the 80th minute, but Fiamenyo’s close range effort went into goalkeeper’s hands before Isuza’s shot was also saved by Mathias Kigonya.

Earlier at the same venue Kariobangi Sharks beat Thika United by a goal to nil thanks to Rodgers Omondi’s strike in the 63rd minute.

In Kakamega Ulinzi Stars, too, were on the receiving end of their former employee, Wycliffe Ochomo, who helped Kakamega Homeboyz to a 1-0 victory.

In Kisumu Stadium, Nzoia Sugar shocked hosts Western Stima 2-0. It was a victory that would lift the spirit of coach Bernard Mwalala, who is nursing injury following a road accident on Tuesday involving a tractor along Webuye-Bungoma road.

His absence did not matter though as assistant coach Vincent Sifuna masterminded a shock and awe strategy that saw Boniface Omondi put Nzoia Sugar in the lead in the 34th before Joachim Oluoch added the second in the 64th minute.

Nzoia Sugar could have taken the lead as early as the 13th minute when Jackson Saleh handled the ball in the box, but Edgar Nzano missed the target.
