Laiser Hill Academy leave others hurting in Nakuru

Laiser Hill Academy defeated St Patrick's Iten 96-31 yesterday at Nakuru High to qualify for boys’ basketball final.

Laiser, who have had a rather smooth ride in the preliminaries, led 49-15 at half time. They will play Kapenguria Boys in the final today morning on the final day of the Rift Valley secondary schools Term One Games.

For the former national champions, today's final should be smooth-sailing. Playing Kapenguria for the second time in three days, Laiser will be praying for a repeat show once more. They defeated Kapenguria 54-28 in their Pool C match.

Kapenguria defeated champions Kapsabet Boys 54-34 in the other semifinal. Laiser Hill defeated Maralal Boys 93-15, while Kapenguria dismissed Baringo High 66-17.

In girls’ basketball, Laiser will meet St Brigid’s of Trans Nzoia in today's final. Laiser defeated Cheptil 35-30 in a tough semifinal match, while St Brigid's defeated Nakuru Girls 61-16 in the other semi.

In the play-offs, Cheptil defeated Nakuru Girls 30-14.

In rugby 15s, Laiser Hill were at it again as they defeated Utumishi Academy 56-5 to qualify for the final. They will play St Joseph’s of Trans Nzoia in today's final.

“We are determined to book a ticket to the national games although we will not underestimate our opponents in the final,”  Laiser Hill coach Anthony Kirimi said.

On their way to the final, St Joseph’s defeated Cheweyot of West Pokot 10-0 in the other semi.

In boys’ hockey, two goals by Wycliffe Aseli and one by Brian Ongeche was all former champions St Anthony of Trans Nzoia needed to defeat hosts Nakuru Boys 3-1 in the semifinal. They will play Kapenguria Boys in the final.

St Anthony led 2-0 at halftime, before Nakuru's consolation goal came through Zachariah Kihara in the 62nd minute.
