THINGS FALL APART: Kenya drops in Sevens rugby rankings as Norton equals Injera’s 244 try record

Kenya national Sevens rugby team has dropped one place in the latest 2016/17 HSBC World Sevens Series rankings.

This came after Shujaa's dismal performance in the sixth leg of the Series in Vancouver, Canada, over the weekend.

Kenya secured just five points after losing 7-21 to Sir. Gordon Tietjens' Samoa side in the Challenge Trophy semifinal, at the BC Place, yesterday morning.

The result saw Shujaa drop to 12th (40 points) from 11th after round six. There are four legs left (Hong Kong, Singapore, Paris and London Sevens).

Kenya had a false start in Canada, falling 14-28 to eventual tournament winners England, lost 5-15 to South Africa, before beating Chile 26-19 in their last Pool A match.

This performance relegated them to the Challenge Trophy for the fifth time this season. They, however, narrowly defeated Scotland 19-17 in the quarterfinals, before losing to Samoa in the semis.

Alex Samoa, Joe Perez and Savelio Ropati scored a try each for the Pacific Islanders' as Sammy Oliech grounded a converted consolation try for the Singapore champions. Samoa lost 19-12 to Wales in the final.

England won gold, their second this season, after seeing off Series leaders South Africa 19-7 in the Main Cup final as Dan Norton equalled Collins Injera's 244 try record.

This was England's second victory in their three meetings with Blitzboks after beating the Africans at their own home turf in Cape Town and drew 14-14 in their Group A encounter at the weekend.

The victory put them second overall in the series with 103 points, 23 behind South Africa, who remain top of the pile. They have won four tournaments out of the six legs.

Back-to-back series champions Fiji dropped to third with 100 points after a close 28-24 win over USA in the Bronze final.

Speedster Dan Norton was one of the stand-out players of the tournament. He won the DHL Impact Player award, HSBC Player of the Final, then levelled Injera's world leading 244 tries.
