Kenyan fishermen on islands in Lake Victoria have accused Ugandan police of unlawfully arresting them. Those in Ringiti, Remba, Kiwa, Migingo, Mfangano, and Takawiri islands said this was to stop them from fishing in the lake.

Sienga Beach Management Unit chairman Michael Ochieng' complained that Kenyan security officials were not doing anything to protect them.

"We appeal to our security personnel to come to our rescue. We are suffering at the hands of Ugandan security officials," said Ochieng'.

He said those arrested are forced to pay between Sh10,000 and Sh20,000 before they are released.
