Makini School to host Chess tournament

Makini School will host the third edition of the Nairobi Chess Academy youth tournament on Saturday.

The one-day tournament will have six categories including the under-8, under-10, under-12, under-14, under-16 and under-18 for both boys and girls.

Participants will pay a Sh1,000 fee to take part in the event. Those interested must confirm their participation by end of day today.

According to organisers, the top three winners will each receive trophies and certificates. Elsewhere, the national league will continue in the first week of March. The first leg was held two weeks ago.

In a related development, Interim Cricket of Kenya (ICK) has named the players who will take part in the final round of the national youth qualifiers to be held at Alliance Girls High School next month.

 

UNDER-8 CATEGORY

In the under-8 category, Hope Wambui from Greed Garden School, Janvi Nipul Shah and Joy Njeri will take part in the girls category. The boys category will have Drish Shah, Naville Jabali Kibe and Nathan Mutwiri.

The under-10 girls qualifiers are Devashri Shah, Gael Owade, Alaine Moturi and Violynne Faith. Qualifiers for the boys under-10 category are Odongo Lwanga, Reeyan Gorsani, Sanjay Ramesh and Joash Miche.

In the girls under-12 category, Vivian Muthoni leads the qualifiers alongside Naiya Gosrani, Jia Hirandani and Sarah Momanyi. Keith Ndungu, Alvin Mbithi, Rocky Muchiri and Joshua Kamau will take part in the boys' under-12 category.

The girls under-14 category has Mercy Ingado, Sarah Mukhwana, Nikita Muringi and Gilliane Otieno. Jeff Gichuki, Darshah Shah, Sammy Kinyu and Telvin Nyaga are in the under-14 category.

Other qualifiers: Girls under-16: Amini Kiniti, Elsa Majimbo, Paul Jones, Edna Wangare. Under-16 boys: Dev Shah, Hardiv Karania, Billy Timothy and Kemis Abdalla.

Under-18 Girls: Riya Shah, Lydia Kinya, Madelta Glenda, Triza Mwendwa. Under-18 Boys: Brian Chege, Ian Lee, Brian Muchungu and Wayne Obura.
