Former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana has announced the creation of a super alliance to unseat Tana River Governor Hussein Dado.

Mr Mungatana, who lost to Dado in the 2013 polls, said the Tana River Super Alliance would also foster cohesion and peace among communities living in Tana River.

In the run-up to the 2013 polls and 2007, the Tana Delta faced insecurity as tens were killed in tribal clashes between warring communities in the area.

According to Red Cross in December 2012, over 40 people were killed after Pokomo farmers and Orma pastoralists fought over water and grazing rights.

A Judicial Inquiry into the Tana Delta clashes led by Judge Grace Nzioka, however, concluded the fighting was politically instigated.
