KPL: Give us more time please

Kenyan Premier League (KPL) have requested for a one-year notice before the top-tier league can be expanded.

According to KPL lawyer Godfrey Obura, this is what is provided for in an agreement between KPL and Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

Obura, who was making his final submission yesterday in a case filed at the Sports Tribunal, said they will not accept to be "bulldozed around on the matter."

“Our submission is that the federation should give us at least a one-year notice to expand the league. In case they want the 2018 league to have more teams, the notice should be given now and then provide for room for negotiations,” he argued.

Obura insisted the Memorandum of Understanding signed between FKF and KPL in regard to management of the top tier league ought to be respected.

On his part, FKF lawyer Ken Ochieng said every agreement entered into must not be against the constitution.

“Whatever agreements that were arrived at between FKF and KPL must respect our constitution as well as that of Fifa. In this regard, the agreement has broken many of our statutes,” he said.

Ochieng added that the fact that the MOU gives KPL casting authority, makes the league company a parallel federation.
