Kenya’s sole representative in archery at the Rio Olympic Games Shehzana Anwar (pictured) was mistreated prior to the championships, a probe committee report points out.

The report points out that Anwar was denied official competition kit and the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (Nock) paid only for one of her international training camps.

“She used to train for six hours each day and attended several international competitions before travelling to Rio for the games. She also managed to secure a conducive training camp and was trained by some of the world’s best archery coaches.

“It is the role of Nock to prepare qualified athletes for the Olympics. However, for the two trips to South Africa and Turkey, Nock only paid for her training in South Africa. She paid for her own travel and accommodation to Turkey.

“Anwar received training but not competition clothing at the Olympics and had to print her own competition uniform for the games.

“Furthermore, she had to buy her own competition equipment having not received any feedback from Nock on the budgetary requirements needed to prepare for the games,” part of the report said.

It also further points out that Anwar’s return date from Brazil was August 18, but was changed at the last minute to August 11 to create space in the games village for track and field athletes as well as officials.

The committee also took issue with the selection of the swimming team for the games.
