Students teach street children American football

The JKUAT Sparrows, a team of American football players from the university’s Juja campus recently held an event at the Nairobi University grounds where they trained street children to play the game.

Formed in the late 2015, with help from the already established Mighty Nyati team from UoN, the Sparrows have since grown in size and stature.

They now have their own training grounds at the University, where they hold regular training sessions led by their coach Tedd Dunde.

They boast the best, most athletic players in the region. But for all their accomplishments in bringing the sport to the country, they are proudest of their efforts to engage the street children they meet in town. They first encountered the street children on their way from a training session, along University way. Being social, the team invited the kids to join their training and taught them the basics of the game. This culminated in the event held at the University of Nairobi.
