County Governments have brought development to our doorsteps

Since the inception of devolution, development in the 47 counties has been underway, although its misconception and wrong definition has mislead the general public.

It is also worth noting that, devolution in Kenya is at its infancy stage and for it to mature it will take some time. Majority of County governments have replaced the former deficient County councils.

Pay attention and eavesdrop from a group of people, be it men, women or youths and hear what they speak on devolution. Some have been misled and for them what they see is incompetence and irresponsibility of those in office. When you look deep down on their claims or what they stand on is not what we define as development.

Due to lack of knowledge many people have been duped to believe that elected leaders have done nothing during their tenures. To get the real definition of development we have to focus on our main agendas that are laid down in our vision 2030 so that we can judge whether those in office are working or not.

Gone are the days when we heard rumors of money allocated by either County Governments or National Government after they leave office. Most County Governments have put in place civic education days at County, Sub-County and ward level to give the general public a chance to review budgetary allocations. In addition list of completed, ongoing and proposed projects are documented where the electorates have the opportunity to asses them, whether they are ghost projects or not.

Kenyans need to wake up and untangle themselves from the slavery of being blackmailed by visionary leaders who are much engrossed and obsessed with political supremacy rather than development.

In a wider scope Kenyans have seen change in-terms of health, education, transport, agriculture, security, sports just to name  a few; because these services are no longer in the capital (Nairobi) alone but also at the County level. Let’s spearhead devolution by supporting county governments and national government based on the development success we have witnessed.

Furthermore Kenyans should take advantage of civic education so that they are empowered with what is happening in their counties. Different political divides should not be entertained in development. We can be from different political affiliations but we stand together to support development.
