Voters refuse to cause chaos when provoked by politicians

The just concluded by-elections in Kericho and Malindi have shown that 2017 elections will be more peaceful, but not devoid of electoral malpractices in few instances.

Voters displayed commendable level of tolerance and acceptance of the outcomes, and this has fostered unity and cohesion among people who supported different political factions during the campaigns.

However, certain political leaders disappointed not only themselves but also the people they represent when they were allegedly caught with suspect materials with an intention of committing electoral irregularities.

This breed of politicians are the ones Kenyans need to pluck out given their appetite for controversy and conflict. It has been their trend to wreak havoc and leave a trace of hatred and careless political statements behind them.

Despite provocation by a few politicians, most voters held their peace and refused to be used to cause chaos. This shows the milestone that Kenya has made towards condemning political violence after the 2007 post-election violence.

All Kenyans should emulate this rare display of political maturity and tolerance to ensure that peace always prevails despite the difference in political alignment that exist in the society.
