Maddo was joined by retired Standard Reporter Kiundu Waweru among Kenya's five finalists who included Baraka FM'S George Otieno with a story on prostate cancer.

NTV's duo Enock Sikolia and cameraman Charles Kariuki won the he lath category with a brilliantly executed piece on a unique disease of Esteoporosis which is causing paralysis among Turkana residents due to brittle bones because of fluorine.

Maddo's prize was the best in infrastructure category. His nomination had caused excitement among cartoonists who hailed the recognition of their work for the first time in 20 years.

Maddo said he never wears suits but was forced to buy one when he was nominated for the award.
