Suspects drop gun, as two thugs are killed

Three thugs on the run dropped a pistol with two bullets in the Nairobi Central Business District.

Police said they had been trailing the trio after committing a robbery in Industrial Area. On realising they were being trailed, they dropped the gun to divert the officers' attention.

"The intention was to divert the officers' attention and in the process, they vanished," said Kilimani OCPD Peter Katam.

Cases of armed robberies are on the rise, as police up efforts to contain them.

On Friday, two suspected thugs were shot dead near Nyayo Stadium after their attempt to carjack a motorist failed. The two had earlier on, in the company of two others, hijacked a motorist along Mombasa Road.

Makadara OCPD Nehemiah Lang'at said the car stalled near the Nyayo Stadium roundabout after its driver hit a stone as he tried to overlap to avoid a traffic jam.

When they realised the car could not move, they jumped out and tried to run away on foot.

"Officers who were pursuing them managed to gun down two while their accomplices escaped. Efforts to get them are ongoing," said Mr Lang'at.

And in Mowlem, thugs beat up a man and his son on Saturday night, wounding them. The gang demanded cash from the two, but they resisted.

They were then stabbed and robbed of an unknown amount of money and other valuables.
