Counties asked to give PLWD tenders

Nakuru County Commissioner Mohamed Birik has asked county governments to ensure 30 per cent of tenders in respective areas of development are issued to People Living With Disabilities (PLWD).

Speaking during the launch of a registration exercise for PLWDs in Nakuru, Mr Birik said the tenders will enhance their economic wellbeing.

“Women, youth and marginalised persons are entitled to 30 per cent of tenders in all areas of development,” said Birik.

He, however, asked PLWDs to form associations that will help them push for tenders and also empower them with knowledge on how to fight for their rights.

Nakuru MCA Emma Mbugua said lack of information and failure to meet requirements hampered the issuance of tenders to persons living with disabilities.

Mass media

Ms Mbugua said majority of people with disabilities also face challenges of access to information as most of the advertisements are done on the Internet and in the mass media.
