The National Alliance (TNA) Party county branch has expelled nominated Senator Joy Gwendo from the branch accusing her of being a mole.

The branch has also written to the party’s national office to subsequently strip Ms Gwendo of her senate nomination among other disciplinary measures.

Area party officials who addressed the media on Friday said the senator has been summoned by the office on several occasions over her conduct, but deliberations have not borne fruit.

Party County Coordinator Juma Midigo said they had decided to send Gwendo away and are looking for the best replacement to be presented to the party for nominations.

The decision was reached during the branch monthly meeting held on April 28.

“We have decided to expel her because she is not working well. Her position is not pushing the TNA agenda,” said Midigo.

The officials did not however, give details of the misconduct levelled against the senator, but mentioned her close working relationship with Orange Democratic Party (ODM) elected leaders.

Gwendo dismissed the expulsion claims saying she has not received an expulsion letter. “I was nominated by the national office and the county office cannot expel me from the party,” said Gwendo.

Party Secretary General Onyango Oloo, however, said the national office was yet to receive the verdict, adding the county office has no powers to expel a member.

“Do branches have powers to expel any party member?” Mr Oloo posed.

“I have not received any information to that effect. I can’t comment further.”
