Shame of state car used in campaigns

Former assistant minister Agnes Ndetei defied her “public officer” status and camped in Kajiado Central for the last one week pitching for JAP candidate Patrick ole Tutui.

The former Kibwezi MP, now the chair of National Drought Management Authority, went round explaining to locals her first-hand experience of “being in government”.

A car belonging to the authority dropped campaign agents wearing “Joyful women organisation” scarfs at Isilele area in the presence of The Standard on Sunday crew.

The driver insisted on parking the car away from the venue “because it’s a government” car but the women would not understand.
Ndetei later came to the venue accompanied by Kajiado East MP Peris Tobiko and urged locals to vote for the “government candidate.”

“I have worked with four governments now starting with Mzee Kenyatta’s who employed me in 1975 after I finished college. I know outside the government one is cold, forlorn and lost. Even God leaves you,” she said. She said she had camped in Kajiado to “straighten up the other communities” living in the areas.

“I have told Kambas in this area to cut down their long talk. If Maasai have decided to back Tutui, who are they to vote otherwise? I have also told Luos to slow down their empty rhetoric,” she said.

The following day when The Standard on Sunday caught up with her, Ndetei had no apologies: “At the height of my opposition politics, the late Mulu Mutisya once told me to cut down my crap and wait for the day when we will form our own government to yap around. Tell the opposition to wait for their day.” Tutui denied receiving any resources from the state. He said he relied on goodwill of friends.
