Teachers advise Sossion to defy CID summons over North Eastern stand off

BOMET: Teachers from Bomet have called on Knut Secretary General Wilson Sossion not to honor summons by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Director Ndegwa Muhoro.

Led by union's executive secretary in the county Malel Langat, they said the Government is engaging in diversionary tactics from the security concerns that the teachers have raised.

Mr Langat said the summons is an attempt to scare the teachers and union officials.

IMPROVE SECURITY

Speaking in Bomet Thursday, Mr Langat criticised politicians who called on TSC to advertise vacancies. "We want to tell those issuing summons to instead look at ways of improving security in the North Eastern Kenya. We are in solidarity with the teachers," said Langat.

He revealed that there are 37 teachers from Bomet who teach in North Eastern and one of them lost his wife in the Mandera attack.

"These teachers ought to have been counselled and redeployed elsewhere. It's inconsiderate for the commission to threaten them."

Sossion was summoned through a call and an SMS on Tuesday after the teachers vowed to stay put.
