Mbugua tells CORD to keep off Nakuru

Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has said the Opposition is not welcome to hold political rallies in the county.

Mbugua urged residents to keep off CORD rallies and instead concentrate on improving their daily lives by engaging in economic activities.

Terming the rallies premature and unnecessary, the governor said: “We will not support any rally whose aim is just to politick and as residents of this county we wish to dissociate ourselves from rallies by idlers which will not benefit residents,” he said.

According to a schedule released by the Opposition yesterday, CORD is scheduled to hold a rally on June 22 in Nakuru town.

The rally is part of a planned consultative forum by the Opposition to force the Jubilee Government to hold a national dialogue conference on July 7.

The Governor said the remaining time before the 2017 General Election should be used to serve Kenyans instead of engaging in endless politics.

“We will only be party to rallies which have a public agenda and will make a difference in people’s lives,” Mbugua said.

Speaking while flagging off road repair equipment worth Sh100 million outside his office the Governor urged Jubilee members to unite and be loyal to the coalition to enable it deliver its election pledges.

Deputy Governor Joseph Ruto said the county is politically sensitive owing to its cosmopolitan nature and politicians should be careful to avoid inflaming ethnic passions.

“Nakuru is not like Kericho, Kiambu or Kisii because it has the 42 tribes and in case of any trouble here the whole of Kenya will be on fire,” he said.

Speaking separately, County Majority leader Njenga Mwaura said they will not allow any demonstration by the opposition to take place in the county for the sake of peace.

Mwaura urged the residents to boycott the planned rally and instead focus on nation building because time for politicking is over.

Accompanied by 20 members of county assembly, Mwaura said the Jubilee Government will be in power for 20 years and asked CORD leaders to hold their horses.
