Members of the Nakuru County Assembly have told off Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri’s criticism of the running of county affairs.

The MCAs yesterday said they will not allow the MP to continue using public forums to attack them.

More than 20 MCAs asked Ngunjiri to concentrate on his role as a member of the National Assembly and let them perform their functions at the county.

“As MCAs, we are going to take him head on as we are tired of his unwarranted attacks on the County Assembly,” Lake View ward representative Simon Wanyoike said.

Addressing a press conference at the County Assembly, the MCAs defended County Assembly Speaker Susan Kihika against accusations of inefficiency levelled against her by the MP.

Service delivery

“We have been working well with the Speaker who is discharging her role accordingly and Ngunjiri should stop trying to intimidate her,” said Samuel Waithuki.

The MCAs said Ngunjiri should emulate other MPs in the county and focus on delivering on his mandate as a member of the National Assembly.

Speaking separately, Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama said Ngunjiri should stop purporting to be issuing statements on behalf of the county’s MPs.

“He has been claiming to be the chairman of the Nakuru County MPs but we have never elected him to be our spokesman,” said Arama.

The ODM MP accused Ngunjiri of intimidating the county government’s officers and affecting service delivery.

Resident’s suffering

However, Ngunjiri said he has every right to comment on county issues and accused the MCAs of failing Nakuru residents.

“They passed a Finance Bill which has caused untold suffering to residents yet they don’t want to be told the truth,” he said

Ngunjiri also accused the MCAs of misusing public funds through foreign trips, which he says were not beneficial to the residents.

“They have also failed to discharge their duties of vetting those to hold public offices allowing people with dubious papers to be in office,” he said.
