NAKURU, KENYA: Two suspected thugs were on Monday shot dead by police while robbing a Petrol Station at Kenlands estate in Nakuru town.

The thugs who were in company of five others posed as taxi and boda-boda operators in need of fuel. Their accomplices who were in salon car with faked number plate covered with papers managed to escape.

“The thugs posed as taxi operators who wanted to fuel their vehicle but immediately after the cashier noticed their intention of robbing, he informed me,” said Mbugua.

The thugs threatened to kill cashier by pouring petrol on him after he failed to hand them main keys to cash drawer and main offices.

Confirming the incident, Nakuru OCPD Bernard Kioko said police officers exchanged fire with the gang at the scene before gunning down two of them while others escaped.

Kioko said the gang shot at OCS' car which was trailing their movement.

"The thugs shot at the police vehicle after they suspected they were officers trailing them," said Kioko. He said they were pursuing those who escaped with bullet wounds.

A homemade gun, 15 bullets and crude weapons were recovered during the incident.
