US President Barack Obama called President Uhuru Kenyatta to offer support following a fire that gutted down the entire international arrivals terminal at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

“ President Obama called President Kenyatta today to offer United States support following a major fire at Kenya’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport,” read a statement posted by the US Embassy, Nairobi.

Obama at the same time sent his condolences to families of those killed during the 1998 terrorist attack against the US Embassy in Nairobi.

While commemorating the 15th anniversary since the attack, Obama expressed his government’s commitment to countering terrorism around the globe.

On Wednesday, operations were grounded at JKIA after a fire destroyed the arrivals terminals causing domestic and international flights to be cancelled.

However local and some international flights have resumed.
