Moi lauds translation of Bible into Sabaot

By PETER ATSIAYA

Former President Moi has encouraged the translation of the Bible into local dialects.

Moi said the failure to access the Bible in vernacular has hampered efforts by a majority of illiterate Kenyans to be able to read and understand the word of God.

Moi made the remarks in a speech read on his behalf by retired General Lazarus Sumbeiywo during the official launch of the Sabaot Bible at Kibuk Girls High School in Mt Elgon District yesterday.

The former president said translating the bible into Sabaot language was a milestone. He added that the launch of the Bible was a great thing not only for the Sabaot, but also for all other Kalenjin speaking people.

“I want to thank efforts made by people behind this initiative, among them the Bible Translation and Literacy Organisation (BTLO), teachers, local leaders and all those who contributed towards this historical event,” said Moi.

Presidential aspirant William Ruto said the translation of the Bible into Sabaot language would play a big role in bringing peace in the region that had been hard hit by clashes.

Ruto gave a donation of Sh1 million to BTLO to facilitate the publishing of more bibles.
