Three robbery suspects killed in Kayole, Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya: Three suspected thugs, including a woman, were Friday morning shot dead by police after a botched robbery on a petrol station in Kayole area, Nairobi.

Police say they recovered an AK47 rifle and pistol from the gang that had attacked a dealer of gas cylinders and escaped when police were informed.

The officers chased them for a short while before a gunfight broke out that left the three killed along the bypass connecting to Thika Road.

The incident comes in the wake of heightened police patrol ahead of the arrival of U.S. President Barack Obama next week. Two weeks ago, four other suspects were killed by police in the same area and weapons found on them.

The Friday morning incident caused a traffic jam as motorists slowed down to see what had happened. The vehicle that the gang was using rammed onto a lorry causing an accident.
