There was jubilation at Mount Kenya University main campus when the institution ushered in a state-of-the art digital bus.

The students sang and danced as they welcomed the new 60-seater bus, which they will use for studies while travelling.

Dean of Students Evans Otieno said the Sh15 million bus is the first to be owned by a Kenyan university and is fitted with free Wi-Fi and computers.

"The bus will go a long way in enhancing student welfare and activities, key among them academic and social trips. The students will be able to undertake their studies and research while travelling easily," said Mr Otieno.

He encouraged the students to make good use of the bus so that they can catch up on what they missed in class.

The university's student association president Samuel Kimani, on behalf of the student fraternity, thanked the administration for coming up with such an idea.

"The students are happy and thankful beyond words. The bus will make research and studying much easier for the students, especially those engaged in different sports while travelling," said Mr Kimani.
